Rdevelopment did not start from bricks and mortar, but from code and systems. Before founding Rdevelopment, Erwin Eekelaar built and led Netsetup, a software company focused on workflow automation, mobile inspection platforms, logistics systems and operational tools for highly regulated environments. Over the years, Netsetup developed and supported solutions for organisations such as Superunie in the retail and logistics domain, national inspection authorities like COKZ, hospitals and care institutions, international automotive players such as D'Ieteren, major industrial companies including Farm Frites, Rentokil and Kaak, and real-estate software specialist Kalshoven (now part of Aareon), as well as various government bodies.
This background means that Rdevelopment carries a software-engineering mindset into every spatial project: thinking in systems, understanding data flows, and designing environments that have to work in day-to-day operations, not just on paper. Rdevelopment is, in many ways, the spatial and strategic continuation of what started at Netsetup: making complex systems legible, robust and future-proof.
AI as a natural extension of Netsetup's work
Long before AI became a buzzword, Netsetup was already implementing techniques that today would be comfortably labelled as applied AI. In retail and logistics contexts, Netsetup's software performed smart order calculations, helped users quickly find and compare products in large catalogues, and optimised routes and workloads based on historical and real-time data. In the real-estate and property domain, this same logic can be extended. The type of analytical work Netsetup enabled - calculating volumes, occupancy, energy demand, performance over time - is closely related to what today is done with AI-supported tools for building physics and sustainability. Concepts like Passivhaus, which rely heavily on detailed energy modelling and envelope performance, are ideal candidates for AI-assisted design exploration: from envelope optimisation to dynamic scenario testing.
